Two lakes and hundreds of birds

Lake Abijatta is known for its large population of flamingos, which congregate on its banks to create a magnificent spectacle. In addition to flamingos, Lake Abijatta is also an important location for many other bird species, making it a true paradise for birdwatchers.

Lake Shalla, on the other hand, is a freshwater lake surrounded by magnificent cliffs. It is the deepest lake in Ethiopia and offers breathtaking landscapes. Visitors can enjoy hikes around the lake to admire its unspoiled natural beauty and observe local wildlife.

In addition to lakes, Abijatta-Shalla National Park is home to a variety of other natural habitats, including savannahs, forests, and wetlands. These different ecosystems offer a great diversity of fauna and flora, making it a favorite place for nature lovers and safari enthusiasts. We can see ostriches in large numbers, warthogs and gazelles.
