Fasika the Ethiopian Easter

Ethiopian Easter, Fasika in Amharic, is celebrated in commemoration of the resurrection of Jesus on the third day after his crucifixion. They are consecrated after 55 days of fasting and represent one of the most popular festivals for Orthodox Ethiopians.

On the eve of Easter, Orthodox Ethiopians attend religious ceremonies accompanied by incense and leave home around 3 a.m. to break the fast.

You will attend this festival in one of the high places of Orthodoxy in Lalibella. Fasika corresponds to the Easter holidays.

Take advantage of this trip to visit the essential sites of the historic northern route among which four sites are classified in the UNESCO World Heritage List, including: Aksum, Lalibela, Gondar, the island of monasteries of Lake Tana, the palace of the Queen of Sheba.
