Trekking in the Simien Mountains

The Simien Mountains feature the most spectacular mountain landscapes in Africa: large volcanic plugs formed 40 million years ago, eroded through the seasons, made up of fantastic rocks, pinnacles and flat mountains and peaks described by a writer like “the chess pieces of the Gods”. The Simien Mountains dominate the rugged gorges, river valleys and plains that extend into Eritrea. There are many peaks over 4000 meters above sea level and higher such as Ras Dashen (4620m), Buyit Ras (3250m), Bwahit (4430m).

This park is a haven of peace for many endemic species of fauna and flora such as the gelada baboon, the Walia Ibex and many species of birds. The park was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1974.

Your 7-day hiking/trekking will take you through landscapes covered by deep gorges, jagged corks and the striking rock towers of the Semien Mountains. You will go from Debrak to Sankaber, Chenek, Immet Gogo, Geech, Ambiquo Ras Dashen with days of 5 to 8 hours of walking.
